Though technically a suburb of Decatur, you won't find a more distinctive little town anywhere. Everyone seems to have a word to describe Oakhurst... eclectic, diverse, hip, liberal, inclusive- to name just a few. And it manages to fulfill all those descriptions with a population that numbers less than 6000 people.
The heart of town is the Oakhurst Village with popular local businesses that offer everything from art to wine tasting, cold beer and hot pizza to haircuts and eye care. You can usually walk from one of these to the next in just under a minute.
A point of pride for residents is the Oakhurst Community Garden Project. Their mission; " To cultivate vibrant green space and inspire a community of environmental stewards." If you want to learn about organic gardening and share in the veggies, this is the place.
Much of the Craftsmen bungalow architecture dates from the founding of Oakhurst in 1910. Another burst of building occurred in the 40's, featuring brick ranches with front porches. You can check out photos and pricing of homes currently on the market by clicking the Search for Homes tab at the top of this page.
Festivals are frequent in Oakhurst. Some of the favorites are Earth Day in Harmony Park, the Oakhurst Arts & Music Festival, BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival and the appropriately named Oakhurst Wine Crawl (don't forget your ID).
