AVONDALE ESTATES

Avondale Estates offers the best of a vintage past and a tradition of thoughtful development that will continue to advance the city well into the future.  Founded in 1924 by George Francis Willis, Avondale Estates was named after his fondness for William Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.   The city is listed on the National Registrar for Historic Places for containing one of the country’s oldest and most comprehensive planned communities.

The town’s distinctive Tudor stylings are reflected by a charming cluster of storefronts that sit proudly across from an old Tudor clock at the historic subdivision’s main entrance.   An enormous stretch of mature and flowering shrubbery hug the perimeter of this original housing section, which takes you to another time through winding ways of cottage-lined streets.

Nestled within the 1920s and 30s cluster of homes is a private lake offering peaceful views and walking paths that belie the town’s estimated 9-mile proximity and direct MARTA lines to midtown Atlanta.

Beyond the town’s historic section, Avondale Estates also offers new construction and many other smaller groupings of high-end and moderately-priced homes.  From its walkable original community, to its dedicated city services and historic 1955 opening of the country’s first Waffle House restaurant, Avondale Estates’ proper planning legacy will continue into a new era.
